Brain Health : Line Dancing, Boardgames

When it comes to healthy aging, taking care of our minds is just as vital as looking after our bodies. Leading an active lifestyle isn’t just about physical fitness; it is a powerful shield for our cognitive health. Engaging in stimulating, social group activities is one of the best ways to keep the brain active, build cognitive reserve, and actively work to prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

An 18-year wait for a venue to hold activities for senior citizens from our community. It has certainly been a long time coming! Beribu2 terima kasih to MPPWP of Sub Zon-2 Segambut which manages the Dewan as instructed by Jabatan Perdana Menteri, DBKL and also Pejabat Ahli Parlimen Segambut. We are extremely grateful to all the above for allowing our warga emas the use of the Dewan on Weds and by pre-arrangement on Fridays.
“What a beautiful Wednesday at TTDI Community Hall!
Every Wednesday the hall is booked for activities from SeniorsAloud community. From 11am to 1:30pm the floor comes alive with line dancing, and from 2pm to 4pm the tables fill with laughter, strategy, and friendly competition over board games.
Today, Wed 27 May, I dropped by and my heart just lifted. The place was a full house — members deep in thought over Scrabble, Rummikub, Mahjong etc and savouring every moment. Not a dull second in sight. The ladies turned out in strength, outnumbering the men, and the energy was contagious.
I went table to table, capturing the joy, the focus, the camaraderie. This short video is my compilation of an afternoon well spent — proof that age is just a number when your mind stays curious and your spirit stays playful.
A special salute to our SeniorsAloud founder, Lily Fu, who leads by example. There she was, completely engrossed in the games, reminding us all that joy is best when shared.
To everyone watching: come join us in the weeks to come. Bring your favourite board game, or slip into your line dancing shoes. Whether you’re stepping to the beat or plotting your next Scrabble triple-word score, there’s a seat for you here.
See you next Wednesday at TTDI Community Hall — 11am for line dancing, 2pm for board games. Let’s keep our brains ticking and our hearts light, together.
Proud to be associated with this incredible community.”
(Thanks, Dr Pola, for the kind writeup and video. Excellent capture of our inaugural activities at the Dewan. Glad you are just as delighted as we are with the place. Means much to us as you are regarded an icon in TTDI!)
P.S. Our eternal gratitude to Didi for alerting us about the Dewan.
